Max’s Famous Merry-Go-Round Trick

September 1, 2003 / JeffreyBennett / Jeff in the Media, Other Fun Stuff

Max was once actually invited to the David Letterman show — not because of his starring role in books, but rather because of the trick in the video clip below. As described in Max Goes to Mars, he learned the trick as a puppy and did it all his life. He began to tremble with excitement whenever he saw a playground merry-go-round, and ran for it as soon as we gave the release command. He’d push it around with or without kids on it. When there were kids, he was always very careful not to bump anyone as he jumped on and off. You’ll se that in the clip below, and also see how much faster he can make it go once the kids jump off. And as for Letterman… in the end, we didn’t get to go, because they couldn’t figure out how to set up a concrete anchoring system for the merry-go-round on the stage.
