Understanding Eclipses

The free Totality app was created by Big Kid Science, which subsequently donated the app to the American Astronomical Society (AAS).
For additional eclipse information beyond what you find within the Totality app, please visit the American Astronomical Society (AAS) Eclipse Pages (eclipse.aas.org).

This two-part video created for the Totality app will give you a great introduction to the science of eclipses.

Part 1: Types of Eclipses

Eclipses come in two basic types, lunar and solar, but each has three variations. Learn why by watching Part 1 of the Understanding Eclipses video.

Part 2: When and Why Eclipses Occur

Watch Part 2 to learn about when and why eclipses occur.
